‘Bobi Wine Is Just A Wave That’ll Pass’-Min. Tumwebaze

By Keefa Nuwahereza

The Minister for Gender, Labour and Social Development (GLSD) Frank Tumwebaze has said that National Unity Platform (NIUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine is nothing to reckon with, because he is like a wave that will soon pass.

Minister Tumwebaze said this during an interview on NBS TV’s morning breeze, where he said that Bobi Wine is just a populist going around the country lying to people.

“Kyagulanyi is a wave, and waves don’t last. He has affected FDC, but NRM is intact even in Buganda, where he has some supporters,” Tumwebaze said, adding; “It is not enough for you to say you are tired of 35 years of Museveni. 35 years of doing what? It has been 35 years of reconstructing Uganda’s economy.”

The Minister also said that; “I heard Kyagulanyi saying if he becomes president, he will give the people the lake to do illegal fishing. You may sound populist that you want people to deplete the lake, but what is the future.

Should I say we are going to hold mass prayers, and then everybody will become rich? When you hear that the NRM is investing in infrastructure, infrastructure improves people’s incomes. What else do you want?”

Commenting about youth in Uganda not supporting NRM, Tumwebaze said that; “You hear people saying the NRM doesn’t have the support of the youth. The NRM swept the recent youth elections. Our message sinks; that is why the votes vindicate us. We are the biggest mass party (NRM). Do you think this will one day disappear in thin air?”
